Shyamala Shanmugasundaram
Shyamala’s fiction and nonfiction works have been published by Tulika Books, National Book Trust, Children’s Book Trust, Alka Publications, Rupa & Co, Ponytale Books and Pratham Books. Her picture books have been translated into several Indian languages.
Shyamala’s Young Adult book, Dreams on Fire, won the first prize in the Competition for Writers of Children’s books (2017) organised by Children’s Book Trust (CBT). Her nonfiction picture book for 3-6 year olds, Everyone Has a Name, was runner up in the 2019 CBT contest.
Home Sweet Home (Pratham Books) is on the CBSE recommended list. Greet When You Meet (National Book Trust) a nonfiction book on how animals and people greet each other, has sold one lakh copies, and continues to be a bestseller.
Shyamala is also the chief ideator of Kahani Takbak and Kidlit Unscripted, online platforms to promote children’s books and their creators. She is also the recipient of Julie Hedlund’s 12×12 Silver Scholarship(2023) to amplify her stories on a global platform.
